KV Pharmaceutical Company is a fully integrated specialty pharmaceutical
company that develops, manufactures, acquires, licenses, and markets technologically
distinguished branded and multisource products.
We apply this technology to our three wholly owned subsidiaries,
Ther-Rx Corporation, ETHEX Corporation, and Particle Dynamics, Inc., which market
technologically differentiated products to the brand and multisource marketplaces and
value-added, specialty ingredient products to the pharmaceutical, personal care, food, and nutritional
markets.

Drug Delivery Research and Development
Today, our research and development activities include the
development of new and next-generation drug delivery technologies and the formulation of
proprietary brand name and multisource products.
KV's approach to new product development through application of
delivery technology to known drugs is faster and far less risky than research of new
molecular entities. Our drug delivery depth and breadth allows us to have 15 technological approaches in various stages of commercialization and not wait in an academic or theoretical mode.
These technologies fall within four principal areas: 1) SITE
RELEASE® (bioadhesive), 2) Tastemasking, 3) Quick-Dissolving Tablets, and 4) Oral
Extended/Delayed Release.

KV's success is partly attributed to its development of breakthrough technologies
in four principal areas:
 |
 |

 |
 |
SITE RELEASE®
KV's SITE RELEASE® family of drug delivery
systems offers a creative, unique approach to drug delivery that relies on
bioadhesion to wet and dry living tissues, coupled with controlled release of the
drug agent. Products incorporating KV's SITE
RELEASE® technologies are designed to adhere
to wet and dry living tissues yet are minimally affected by the presence of moisture.
Each of the SITE RELEASE® technologies is
individually tailored to optimize drug delivery for oral, topical, or a
specific orificial use.

 |
Tastemasking
Our tastemasking technologies improve the
taste of unpleasant drugs. This technology
provides better-tasting liquid (FlavorTech®);
chewable, quick-dissolving, or effervescent
tablets and ingredients (MicroMask);
and dry powder formulations (LIQUETTE);
even for extremely bitter-tasting drugs.

 |
 |
Quick-Dissolving Tablets
KV is developing a quick-dissolving tablet technology that exhibits the ability
to tastemask, yet dissolves in the mouth in a matter of seconds. Most other
quick-dissolving technologies offer either quickness at the expense of poor
tastemasking or excellent tastemasking at the expense of slower disintegration
of the tablet in the mouth.

 |
 |
Oral Extended/Delayed Release
Our oral extended/delayed release technologies can be tailored to the desired
release profile for a given drug. The release profile is dependent on many
parameters, such as drug solubility, protein-binding, and site of absorption.
Our oral extended/delayed release technologies include KV/24® (for once
daily dosing) and METER RELEASE® (for twice daily dosing).
|
 |
 |
 |
Added to our expertise in drug delivery technologies is our
commitment to have in place state-of-the-art laboratory and manufacturing
capabilities. Today, KV has over 1,000,000 square feet of predominantly owned facility
space. We have three shift operations in place that are able to produce in commercial
quantities products developed using our drug delivery technologies.
